Let’s talk about designing a small business website.
My niche is working with small businesses and solopreneurs who need a new or updated website that is unique and pleasing to the eye. At the same time the website should shout through all it’s elements exactly the business’ goals and mission. This is especially important for a new entrepreneur or one who is changing careers, whether the site is five or fifty pages.
At a minimum a good website should contain:
Navigation
Simple, obvious navigation, short bursts of information on the home page that leads to more detail on inner pages.
Ease of Contact
Some sites make it impossible to figure out how to get in touch or to ask questions of the business. A contact method should be obvious immediately.
Eye-appeal
Representative photos and images, the right words to explain the business, and maybe a good video or two.
Purpose
Inform site visitors clearly about what you do. This includes content for the best search engine optimization. Content that is kept current and relevant.
I build websites that people recommend to others…
Through the past 20+ years I have moved from HTML-based websites to WordPress-based websites exclusively. WordPress makes the most sense for small business people. The initial costs are lower and the upkeep is less expensive. And it’s a safe bet that WordPress is here for the long haul – as today nearly 40% of websites worldwide are built using WordPress.

After ten years of working with Sheri on countless web site projects we have found her to be an amazing web designer and a rare combination of a talented digital graphic artist with the technical knowledge and skills to create beautiful websites that serve her clients well. Great work ethic and follow through, conscientious, detail oriented, efficient, communicative, collaborative, and actually does what she says she’ll do in a timely manner. We’ve had many web designers over the years, going all the way back to the birth of the internet, and Sheri is by far the best.
