WordPress is the base of most small business websites these days. At the moment of this writing, 37% of the world’s websites are built on WordPress. Why? Because it’s free, open-source, and doesn’t require coding knowledge to install or use.
It can be hosted on hundreds and probably thousands of hosting company website – including WordPress.com, so I won’t attempt to explain the various options here, though there are several, including some free hosing with ads.
My preference for new clients, after years of working with WordPress, is a WordPress managed site. (Unless you have multiple sites and then that can get a bit expensive). But assuming you only need one, any one of many hosting companies…Bluehost.com, Godaddy.com, Hostgator.com, Siteground.com, etc… an provide annual hosting package that will allow WordPress installations on shared hosting servers, and help you keep them updated.
Then you need a theme and plugins – but that’s a subject for another day.
These days there are thousands of choices for themes. I like Gutenberg enabled themes, so that once your site is designed, a novice who is interested can add their own blogs and images, with a little training from your designer, and Youtube videos when you get stuck.
I design WordPress websites exclusively. Everything in my portfolio is built on WordPress, and of those 99% are built using Genesis based themes by Studiopress or 3rd parties designing for the Genesis Framework.
