“I don’t have a single idea about where to start.” is a statement I hear frequently.
Yes, a good designer can create something for you without your input by telling you about Web trends and the basics. But you will want to contribute as well, so that when it’s done, your website has a look and feel that makes you feel good.
What do you want to convey in a few words, images and/or videos to the people who are thinking about becoming your customers or clients? And what are others in your area of expertise saying on their own websites? What kinds of questions do you get over and over when you are speaking to a customer or client? Just a few things to think about
Sizing up the competition
I always suggest that a potential client conduct a simple Web search by going to google.com and in my case typing in “web designer”. Then click through some of the links to see what others are doing, and what appeals to you. This will help you see what styles appeal, and tell you if you may have you forgotten something about describing your business or service.
Next time we’ll talk about niches…
