The answer is yes and no. You can do it all – and there are some good “how to” videos about using Gutenberg. Here are a couple I found on Youtube:
- WordPress Gutenberg Editor – Quick Start Tutorial (start about 45 seconds – the first part is about updating the site). The rest is good for editing a single page or post.
- Gutenberg Paragraph Block – Ultimate Guide – WordPress Block Editor (this is pretty detailed, but it will help explain a very basic concept of editing).
- How to Create Posts and Pages in Gutenberg Block Editor Be sure to click the description under the video to open the guide to show the various info you may or may not want to listen through.
Now I know I’m a web designer and therefore do this work for pay – but I strongly recommend that you let a designer do the rest of the changes you want to make to your site; such as new pages, and anything that doesn’t just require a heading, a paragraph, and perhaps some images. Even with a template – it is easy to really mess up unless you are quite comfortable and experienced. Edit a paragraph, edit a date, even begin adding a page – but keep your designer in reserve to do all the “heavy lifting.”
Mostly today you can trust that WordPress and plugins will update automatically without a hitch (that’s a new setting you can turn on). But sometimes there are changes in the plugins being used on your site that create conflicts, and sometimes – particularly with a site not Gutenberg optimized – something that’s been working for years, stops working.
So all that to say – edit away. Add a post to your blog. But working with blocks can be tricky, and for a professional looking site – use a professional to do it.
